The hotel chain participates in the Circular Tourist Communities project, transforming its organic waste into an environmental awareness tool and organic fertilizer
GF Hoteles takes a firm step in its sustainability strategy by integrating ‘Compost Tea’ into its circular economy model. This initiative is developed within the framework of Circular Tourist Communities, a project led by Ashotel and Asaga Canarias, which includes the chain's establishments with the aim of closing the waste life cycle.
From hotel waste to organic resource
The process begins with responsible management in the 30 Adeje hotels adhering to the project, where more than 3,000 tons of organic waste have already been separated. These remains are processed to generate compost, resulting in more than 1,200 tons of organic fertilizer returning to the primary sector, enriching the island's soils.
The ‘Compost Tea’ kit is produced by the Fundación Ataretaco, an entity that employs people in social integration programs for its creation. Using recycled textiles and materials such as sheets from hotel establishments, the kit not only represents an environmental benefit but also acts as a faithful reflection of the project's social philosophy.
Direct application in the gardens
The project's impact is already visible in the chain's own facilities. Josué Pacheco, a member of the GF Hoteles Gardening department, has begun to apply ‘Compost Tea’ in the gardens of the establishments. This action ensures that the sustainable cycle is completed within the hotel's own spaces, improving the health of its green areas naturally and responsibly.
With this initiative, GF Hoteles reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable tourism model, demonstrating that collaboration between the accommodation sector, social entities, and the primary sector is the key to the future of the Canary Islands.
