GF Hoteles promotes the circular economy through 'Compost Tea'

GF HOTELES
The hotel chain is participating in the Circular Tourist Communities project by transforming its bio-waste into a tool for environmental awareness and organic fertilizer.
GF Hoteles is taking a firm step in its sustainability strategy by integrating 'Compost Tea' into its circular economy model. This initiative is part of the Circular Tourism Communities project, led by Ashotel and Asaga Canarias, in which the chain's establishments participate, with the aim of closing the waste life cycle.
From hotel waste to organic resource
The process begins with responsible management in the 30 hotels in Adeje participating in the project, where more than 3,000 tons of bio-waste have already been separated. This waste is processed to generate compost, resulting in more than 1,200 tons of organic fertilizer being returned to the primary sector, enriching the island's soils.
The 'Compost Tea' kit is produced by the Ataretaco Foundation , an organization that employs people in social integration programs for its creation. Using textiles and recyclable materials such as hotel sheets, the kit not only offers an environmental benefit but also serves as a true reflection of the project's social philosophy.
Direct application in gardens
The impact of the project is already visible at the chain's own facilities. Josué Pacheco , a member of the Gardening Department at GF Hotels , has begun applying 'Compost Tea' to the gardens of the establishments. This action ensures that the sustainable cycle is completed within the hotel's own grounds, improving the health of its green areas in a natural and responsible way.
With this initiative, GF Hoteles reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable tourism model, demonstrating that collaboration between the accommodation sector, social entities and the primary sector is key to the future of the Canary Islands.
