GF HOTELES
It is the first and only hotel chain in the Canary Islands to obtain this seal
The recognition from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) highlights the governance strategy of the Grupo Fedola chain, which places people at the center of its business model
GF Hoteles receives the certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and becomes the only hotel chain in the Canary Islands to obtain this seal. This recognition evaluates sustainability in all its aspects, with a particular emphasis on the company's social and governance strategy. In this way, the seal acknowledges the company's differential value by placing people at the center of its strategy, actively involving employees, guests, and the local community.
This certification is consolidated as one of the most valued tourism seals globally and a key factor for international tour operators, who increasingly choose this seal as the ultimate guarantee of the industry's real commitment to the environment. With this step, the chain positions itself in a place of leadership and differentiation in a highly competitive market that increasingly rewards organizations committed to the natural and cultural environments in which they operate.
For Victoria López, president of Grupo Fedola, this certification reflects the chain's authentic commitment: "At GF Hoteles, we have had a clear conviction for many years: people must be at the center of our management. It has always been this way with our teams, who are the heart of the chain. What makes this GSTC seal so special is that it recognizes and validates that corporate culture of openness to society internationally."
The certification process, carried out by Bureau Veritas, has served as a strategic tool that has helped the chain to organize the real impact of its sustainable policies. "For us, this seal reflects that GF Hoteles has managed to translate its sustainability values into concrete actions that generate real impact," states Celia Capel Agundez, technical manager of the scheme at Bureau Veritas Iberia, adding that the chain has reached "a high level of maturity in managing its social and environmental impact, integrating sustainability into its strategic decision-making."
For his part, VÃctor Escobar, Head of Sustainability at GF Hoteles, highlights the qualitative leap that GSTC certification represents, as it "has allowed us to structure and give strategic value to the governance and social impact actions we were already developing, taking them to the level of quantification and measurement that we already apply in the environmental part." In this regard, Escobar explains that obtaining this certification recognizes the integration of various initiatives aimed at the social sphere and the well-being of employees. These include collaboration with local social entities, as well as internal programs related to work-life balance and staff quality of life, such as shared mobility plans, blood donation campaigns, or the organization of activities for minors during holiday periods.
Involving the client is a fundamental pillar for GF Hoteles and a priority aligned with GSTC standards. In this regard, the chain has developed the Responsible Tourist Guide, a digital and multimedia tool that invites guests to actively commit to protecting the destination.
With this certification, GF Hoteles reaffirms its leadership position in responsible tourism, demonstrating that profitability and hotel success go hand in hand with respect for the environment and the social development of the Canary Islands.
